We are Ben and Tammy Gierer, lifelong residents of the Warren county area.
Giererbees began as a way for Tammy to sell some of the excess soaps and lotions that she makes at the local Farmer’s Market in Warrenton, MO. We’re also beekeepers, and Tammy enjoys incorporating ingredients from the bee’s work into her skincare products. That’s where “Giererbees” came from.
Then, we built a greenhouse- a “hobby greenhouse”, I called it. After some creative engineering, we managed to keep it warmed throughout the winter. Although we have a solar array for the house, there was still a significant electric bill for several winter months. I decided to start cloning our favorite bushes, that we’d accumulated in our landscaping, and starting flower and garden vegetable plants from seed to sell at the Market the next year, to defray the heating expense. Tammy added succulent collecting and propagation to her hobbies, thus the current iteration of Giererbees was born. We call ourselves a “small batch nursery” because we aren’t mass producers, but choose to produce a limited number of a variety of plants interesting to us. We have evolved to specializing in peppers. We currently host tents at local Farmer’s Markets on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and offer shopping at our nursery by appointment.
